RTCA Falls Just Short

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders played well against a tough Frederica Academy on Friday night of last week, but came up just short, falling 42-35 in St. Simons.

Frederica took the lead with a 21yard touchdown run with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. They added the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

RTCA answered with a 31-yard touchdown pass from TJ Stanley to Jashaun Powell with 10 minutes to go in the first half. Justin Bowers tacked on the extra point to tie the game at 7-7.

The Knights quickly took the lead back just a minute later with a big pass play which put them up 14-7. They extended that lead to 21-7 on a 15-yard touchdown run with four minutes left to play in the half.

RTCA kept fighting, and with just 45 seconds left on the clock in the half, they found the end zone on a pass from Stanley to Tripp Durden. Bowers added the PAT to close the lead to 21-14 at the half.

In the third quarter a big 65-yard run from Frederica pushed the lead to 28-14. Again, though, RTCA answered as Elijah Baker capped off a drive with a 13-yard run with 6:44 left in the third quarter. Bowers added the extra point to make it 28-21.

One minute later the Knights were back in the end zone, making the score 35-21. RTCA bounced back with a 65yard pass from Stanley to Powell with four minutes on the clock. That closed the lead to 35-28.

In the fourth quarter the Knights added a touchdown with eight minutes left to play to push the lead to 42-28. Later in the fourth quarter the Crusaders scored their final touchdown of the game to close the lead to 42-35, but they could not overcome the Knights.

Stanley led the way for the Crusaders as he rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown, and was 10-17 passing for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns.

RTCA is now 3-5 on the year. This week the Crusaders will host Edmund Burke Academy on Friday night for Homecoming. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
