Mr. Gene Nash

Mr. Gene Aubrey Nash, age 80, died on March 19, 2022. Mr. Nash was born in Collins. He received his formal education in Tattnall County elementary and middle schools, and graduated from Tattnall County Industrial High School in 1959. He received his BSN degree in Social Science from Savannah State University, a Masters degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University, and a Doctorate degree from Berne University. He was a member of First St. John Primitive Baptist Church in Savannah, where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board. He was also a member of the New Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Association, as well as the Georgia State Primitive Baptist Convention, where he served on many committees. His teaching career began at Telfair County High School, where he worked for 1 year before moving to Montgomery County Training School. While working at Montgomery County, he was a teacher and a coach for the girl’s basketball team for 2 years. He then taught Social Studies at Reidsville High School in Tattnall County for several years and was later appointed as Assistant Principal at Reidsville Elementary School from 1996-2001. He was appointed Principal of Collins Elementary-Middle School in 2001, where he served until retirement in 2005. He wrote and published a book, “All God’s Children.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Nash, Sr., and Ethel Jackson Nash; and his siblings, Trellis, Warnell, Herbert, Evelyn, Quida, Willie, and Roland.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Nash; 2 children, Benjamin Nash (Megan) and Stephanie Renee Nash; 5 grandchildren, Marley, Layliana, Tyamma, Neveah, and JD; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Harpers Funeral Home in Claxton was in charge of arrangements.
