Three Wins For Indians

The Vidalia High School basketball teams took on Toombs County and Woodville-Tompkins last week with the boys winning both games to improve their record to 15-1, while the Lady Indians split, getting a win over Toombs.

Girls vs. TCHS

This was a close game throughout. VHS was up 6-3 in the first quarter of the game. Later in the second quarter, the Indians were up 15-12, but Toombs went on a run and took a 20-19 lead over the Indians as the first half was winding down. VHS held off the Lady Bulldogs to get the win, 51-49.

Boys vs. TCHS It was the lowest scoring first half for the Indians all season as they really struggled to get a shot to fall. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 6-4 with TCHS on top. In the second quarter of the game, VHS took the lead, but were on top by just one, 1110 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Vidalia outscored Toombs 12-3 to push their lead to 23-13. Vidalia finally got some shots to go in the fourth quarter as they put another 23 points on the board on the way to a 46-23 win.

Girls vs. Woodville

The Lady Indians played well against the Lady Wolverines. VHS kept it close in the first and were trailing 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Wolverines pulled away as they outscored VHS 18-7, to lead 29-17 at halftime.

In the third quarter the Indians went on a run and closed in on Woodville. At the end of the third, VHS was down 45-40. Vidalia stayed with Woodville in the fourth but dropped the game 67-59.

Boys vs. Woodville

In the boy’s game, VHS was down 14-8 in the first quarter. Woodville extended that to 22-13, but a three from Jacaree Washington and basket by Bryson Whited closed that lead down. In the second quarter, it was 29-20, but a basket by Ty Dalley and a three from Cori Mincey made it 29-25. Woodville went on another run to push their lead to 41-27, but a three by Cori Mincey made it 41-30.

In the third quarter, the lead was 41-33, but a block and a basket by Jordan Powell kicked off a VHS run. VHs closed it to 41-39 and Powell got a steal and another shot to fall to tie the game at 41-41. Woodville went back on top 45-44, but a three-pointer by Mincey gave Vidalia the lead at 4745.

In the fourth quarter, the Indians held a 61-53 lead and got two big blocks by Washington and Mincey as they closed out the win, 66-55.
