Mrs. JoAnn Kennedy

On December 8, 2021, JoAnn Kent Kennedy of Greenville, GA, passed away while in hospice care in Valdosta, GA. JoAnn was born in Glenwood, GA, on May 5, 1939, to the parents of Roy and Naomi Kent. She grew up on a farm outside of Glenwood, GA, where she learned the value of hard work and enjoyment of the outdoors. JoAnn was a strong woman mentally and physically with a great sense of humor and loved her time with family and friends in and around Glenwood. She played basketball as a youth and enjoyed swimming in the local watering holes as well as fishing in the river. She attended dances nearby and many other social functions of small-town Glenwood. She moved to Atlanta as a teenager and worked various jobs ranging from modeling to secretary to managing a few nightclubs to running an apartment complex. She retired from Norfolk Southern Railway while working as a Chief Clerk in their locomotive repair shop in Atlanta. She loved her family and friends and spent as much time as she could with them. Her adopted son Brett was her best gift, adopting him in December of 1968. She had two beautiful grandchildren that she adored, as well as a daughter-in-law that was very special to her. JoAnn attended Greenville United Methodist Church in Greenville, GA.

JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband, George Kennedy of Greenville, GA; mother, Naomi Kent Couey of Glenwood, GA; father, Roy Kent of Glenwood, GA; and brother, Roy Lee Kent of Alamo, GA.

JoAnn is survived by her son, Brett Allen (Kim) of Powder Springs, GA; grandchildren, Ashley and Dawson Allen of Powder Springs, GA; stepdaughters, Cissy and Kandy Kennedy of Woolsey, GA; sister- in-law, Hannah Kent of Tifton, GA; niece, Sherry Bowen (Spud) of Tifton, GA; nephew, Chip Rocker (Kristin) of Jacksonville, FL; niece, Anita Bass (Michael) of Columbia, SC; and several cousins that live in the Southeast.

JoAnn Kent Kennedy’s visitation was held on December 12, 2021, at Glenwood United Methodist Church, 135 W. Fourth Ave., Glenwood, GA 30428 from 2-3:30 p.m., with the service immediately following. Interment was held at Glenwood City Cemetery following the service.
