Mrs. Mae Jones, age 84 ….

Mrs. Mae Jones, age 84 of Uvalda, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at McRae Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness.

She was born on November 11, 1936, in Glenwood, GA, to the late Willie Silas and Eunice Mae Clark Rowland. She was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Club where she served her community by helping others to their appointments as needed; a member of Uvalda United Methodist Church; a member of the Uvalda First Silver Threads; a member of the Board of Trustees for Southeastern Technical College; a member of the Board of United Way in Toombs, Montgomery, and Wheeler Counties; and a member of the Board of Altmaha Bank and Trust. She also started Uvalda’s first Girl Scout Troop, was affiliated with Paul Anderson Youth Home, and was an avid supporter of United Way and the Dream Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Thomas Heath; her second husband, Gilman U. Jones; her sister, Mary Montford; and her brothers, Deleon Rowland, Carl Lanier Rowland, and Robert Silas Rowland.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her two nephews, Roger Rowland and Kenneth Couey (Joan); and numerous other nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 1:00 p,m, until 1:50 p.m. at Uvalda United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the church following the visitation with Pastor Sharon Womack to officiate. Graveside service and interment will follow at Uvalda City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Board Members and Employees of Altamaha Bank and Trust.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Paul Anderson Youth Home, 1603 Mc-Intosh Street, Vidalia, GA 30474; to the Uvalda United Methodist Church, 411 West Myrtle Street, Uvalda, GA 30473; or to the charity or organization of one’s choice.
