Mrs. Betty J. Fountain Ward, age 88, of Mount Vernon, died on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at her

home. Mrs. Ward was born in Laurens County and grew up in the Rockledge Community, where she attended school. The family moved to Montgomery County when she was a teenager. She worked for a short time as a seamstress at Royden Wear and as a CNA before devoting her full-time efforts to raising her family. After moving to Mt. Vernon, she became a member at First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, where she worked in the Food Ministry, Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Fidelus Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Maudell Thomas Williamson; 2 husbands, Ronnie Fountain and Radine Ward; and her siblings, Eschol Warnock, Grace Kite, Avia Coursey and Manning Warnock.

Survivors include her children, Billy Fountain (Jewell), Kibbee Community, Larry Fountain (Karen), Mt. Vernon, Ted Fountain (Kathy), Ailey, Rhonda Woods (Billy Joe), Alston, Danny Ward (Mandy), Woodstock, Michael Ward, Mt. Vernon, and Lisa Palmer (William), Vidalia; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 13 great- great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service was conducted on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 3:30 p.m., in Mt. Vernon City Cemetery, with Rev. Karl Hay officiating.

Pallbearers were her great-grandsons, Tyler Horton, Mason Horton, D. J. Fountain, Jeffrey Walrath, Joshua Walrath, Jordan Walrath, Trent Fountain, Patrick Fountain, William Fountain, Braiden “Little Rooster” Reynolds, and

Tyler Cross. Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
