VHS Finishes Region 14-1

The Vidalia High School Indians softball team wrapped up their regular season last week. They hosted rival Toombs County on Tuesday and then traveled to Pierce County on Saturday to take on Pierce and Brantley County.

Vs. Toombs

VHS picked up a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead on the Bulldogs, but couldn’t get much going over the next two innings.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Indians finally got something working. With Jesslyn Collins on third base. Emma Vinson came through with a single, and that was followed by a double by Madison Starr that put VHS up 3-0. Toombs did manage to put runners on base in several innings, but VHS kept them off the scoreboard. In the top of the seventh Toombs had two runners on, but a strikeout and a fly out gave the win to the Indians, 3- 0.

Tymber Harris got the win for VHS in the circle and had 12 strikeouts in the game.

Vs. Brantley

The Indians had no problems against the Herons of Brantley. Vidalia scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and then three more in the second as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Vidalia capped it off with one more in the fourth inning and held in the top of the fifth to win the game by the run rule, 9-0. Starr got the win for

Vs. Pierce

It was a low scoring game for the first six innings against the Bears of Pierce County. Pierce scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning as they held the lead over the Indians. continued from page

But in the top of the seventh inning VHS got the bats going as they plated seven runs with Taufmann and Rileigh Robinson each driving in two. The Indians held in the bottom of that final frame to get the win, 7-1.

With those wins the Indians finished the regular season with a record of 24-5, and they were 14-1 in Region 2AA. This week on Tuesday the Indians began a best-of-three series with the Eagles of Josey out of Augusta. Josey is the #4 seed out of Region 4AA. If they need a game three, that will be played on Wednesday of this week in Vidalia with the time TBA.
