Mr. Jack E. “Papa Jack” Lawrence, age 93, of Soperton, died on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at his

home. Mr. Lawrence was born in Treutlen County. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conlfict. He worked at Fowler Dairy and Knox Lumber in Soperton. He later worked as a printer for 19 years at Kalvine in Swainsboro and retired from GFF after an additional 18 years as a needle line operator and mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nice Lawrence and Nettie Fowler Lawrence; his wife, Alene Nobles Lawrence; 1 grandson, Lance Hackle; 1 daughter in law, Janice Lawrence; and all of his siblings.

Survivors include his children, Judy Lawrence Selph, (J.D.), Mt. Vernon, Gregory Lawrence, Soperton; 1 granddaughter, Jennifer Walker, Soperton; 1 granddaughter-in-law, Rena Hackle; his greatgrandchildren, Victoria A. Lawrence Thornton, Centerville, Christian K. Thornton, Soperton, Steven A. Thornton, Soperton, and Ashley Meeks, Soperton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service was held on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 2:30 p.m., in Westview Cemetery, with Pastor Curtis Sumner officiating. Military honors were accorded by the United States Army Ceremonial Honors Detail from Fort Gordon.

Pallbearers were Scott Richardson, D.J. Mason, Keith Clements, Frankie Wade, Dale Brantley and Britt Odom.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Soperton VFW Post.

Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
