Mr. Don C. “Little Champ” Thompson, age 74, of Lyons, died on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Meadows Health in Vidalia after an extended illness.
Mr. Thompson was a native and lifelong resident of Lyons and was a 1965 graduate of Lyons High School. He and his father operated Roy Thompson Logging for many years, and he later retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections as a truck driver. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Cleon Thompson and Rachel Olive Rountree Thompson.
Survivors include 2 children, Matt Thompson and wife Pok of Hinesville and Jennifer Thompson Burns and husband Tren of Lyons; his former wife, Ina Dell; 2 sisters, Beverly Thompson of Claxton and Tiffany Thompson Dixon and husband Jack of Warner Robins; 2 granddaughters, Allison Elizabeth Burns and Abbi Burns, both of Lyons; 1 nephew, T.J. Dixon; and 1 niece, Rachael Dixon.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home, with Dr. Wayne Moseley officiating. Burial followed in the South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Michael Grimes, Doyle Williams, Clint Williams, Dannie Williams, Stacy Youmans, and Wayne Wheeler.
