Mrs. Patricia Nadekow

Patricia O’Brien Nadekow, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2021, at Community Hospice in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was born in Huntington/Long Island, NY, and grew up in Bergenfield, New Jersey. After she was married, she lived in Connecticut for 15 years, moved to south Florida in 1975, then to Vidalia, Georgia, in 1998. She first worked as a bookkeeper for Grand Union in Tenafly, NJ, then for Hobie’s Floral shop in Englewood, NJ, but decided she would rather work with the flowers than the books and ultimately became head floral designer. She worked for a time as a floral designer for Jordan Marsh department store in Hollywood, FL, then Flowerland Florist, also in Hollywood. She was an accomplished seamstress, making beautiful and intricately embroidered items from smocked baby bonnets to tailored clothing and wedding gowns. She also loved to bake, and for a time sold custom cakes. But her greatest pride was being a homemaker. She loved her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren most of all. She was a member of Vidalia First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph James O’Brien, Jr., and Thelma Smoke O’Brien, niece Danielle Cipriani and nephew Brent O’Brien.

She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Robert Nadekow; four children: Robert P. Nadekow (Becky) and Lynn Thompson (Freddy) of Vidalia, Steven Nadekow (Ila) of Lauderhill, FL, and Carol Whitfield (Lee) of Reidsville; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn O’Brien Finlaw (Roger) of Cape Coral, FL; two brothers, Carvel O’Brien of Pequannack, NJ, and David O’Brien (Paula) of San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia, with Jose Caraballo officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Vidalia First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 150, Vidalia, GA 30475, or to the Community Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
