Mr. James Willis Palmer, Sr., age 90, of Adrian, died on Monday, March 22, 2021, at Dublinaire Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dublin. Mr. Palmer was born in Soperton and grew up in Treutlen County, where he graduated from high school before attending Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked with Der s t / Sunbeam Baking Company, where he was a Supervisor of route sales and distribution. He and his wife owned and operated Palmer Construction in Dublin until the mid 1980s. They also owned and operated several convenience stores in Dublin and East Dublin. Upon retiring in the late 1990s, they resided in Pine Mountain and Hiawassee until returning to Adrian. He was a former member of Jefferson Street Baptist in Dublin and Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ellerslie, and attended Adrian Baptist Church after settling there. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 61 years, Avis Morris Palmer.

Survivors include 2 children, Pam Bazemore (Wayne), Midland, and Jim Palmer, North Augusta, SC; 3 grandchildren, James Kelly Bazemore (Jenny), Marietta, Kristy Bazemore Johnson, Midland, and Haley Palmer Wates (Dalton), North Augusta, SC; 3 greatgrandchildren, Chase Johnson, Grey Bazemore, and Jack Bazemore; and nieces and nephews.

A family graveside funeral service was conducted on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Adrian.

Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
