Mrs. Lora Gale Barnes Oglesby, age 75, died on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at the Oaks Bethany of Vidalia after an extended illness. Mrs. Oglesby was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and was raised in Alston. She was a retired seamstress, having worked at Oxford Manufacturing and Uvalda Manufacturing for years. She was a substitute teacher for many years at Montgomery County schools and was over the Daniel Baptist Association Youth summer camp kitchen for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy Franklin and Cora Ellie Browning Barnes; and her stepmother, Betty Beckum Browning Barnes. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John Henry Oglesby; 1 daughter, Kim Oglesby; 1 son, Kevin Oglesby and wife Kimberly, all of Alston; 2 granddaughters, Samantha Oglesby of Alston and Ellie Grace Oglesby and fiance’ Dillon Ward of Mt. Vernon; 1 great-grandson, Bretley James Beasley of Alston; 1 special daughter, Connie Clifton and husband Henry of Lyons; 3 sisters, Sue Carter and husband Henry, Angie Lewis and husband Mike, and Robbie Waller and husband Doyle, all of Alston; 3 brothers, Ronald Barnes and wife Wanda and Ken Barnes, all of Alston, and Donald Barnes and wife Jo of Knoxville/North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service was held on Monday, January 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., in the Sharpe Cemetery near Alston, with Rev. Owen Waters officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alston Volunteer Fire Department, 91 West Broad Street-Alston, Ailey, GA 30410, or to the Oaks at Bethany, 1305 North Street, East, Vidalia, GA 30474.
