The Vidalia High School Indians and Lady Indians track & field teams swept the A Region 3 Championships on Monday of last week, bringing home several individual champions and High Point Award winners.

Takaiyah Bacon and Georgia Meredith both won 3 individual events and were members of winning relays. After tallying up their points, they tied for the high point award. Jaydyn Young won 2 individual events and was a member of 2 championship relays earning enough points to win the high point award for the boys.

In addition to these big scoring team members, there were numerous stand out performances, especially in relays. J’Miyah Hunt swept both the 100m and 200m with excellent performances in both open events as well as the anchor leg in the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relays.

Girls

VHS took the top spot with 149 points. Woodville-Tompkins was second with 52 points, Toombs was third with 24 points, and Swainsboro took fourth with 19 continued from page

points. For VHS Takaiyah Bacon took 1st in the long jump, 1st in the triple jump, and was 1st in the 400m. Georgia Meredith came in 1st in the 800m, 1,600m, and 3,200m runs. J'Miyah Hunt finished in 1st place in the both the 100m and 200m dashes. Dashia Ford was 1st in the 100m hurdles, 2nd in the triple jump, and was 3rd in the 300m hurdles. Diedra Boston was 1st in the shot put, and Alana Claxton came in 1st in the high jump.

Judith Hussey came in 2nd in the 1,600m run and was 2nd in the 3200m run. Maniyah Phillips took 2nd in the discus and was 2nd in the shot put. Dreshiya Jackson finished with 2nd in the 200m dash and was 3rd in the long jump. Zaviyana Walton took 2nd in the 300m hurdles and was 3rd in the 100m hurdles. Ma'Aysia Sanford came in 2nd in the high jump. Aidyn Driggers finished 2nd in the 800m run, and Kayden Love was 2nd in the 100m dash.

Also placing for the Lady Indians were Kahrysma Peavy with 4th in the discus. Rori Johnson came in 4th in the shot put, and Jesse Wynn was 4th in the 400m dash.

In the relays, the Lady Indians took 1st place in all four events. The 4x100m team of Kayden Love, Journey Clements, Zaviyana Walton, and J’Miyah Hunt, the 4x200m team of Kayden Love, Dreshiya Jackson, Dashia Ford, and J’Miyah Hunt, the 4x400m team of Takaiyah Bacon, Jesse Wynn, Aidyn Driggers, and Dreshiyah Jackson, and the 4x800m team of Aidyn Driggers, Emilynn Campbell, Jesse Wynn, and Georgia Meredith all finished in 1st place.

Boys

The Indians took the top spot with a score of 107. Swainsboro was 2nd with 72 points, Toombs was 3rd with 64 points, and Woodville-Tompkins was 4th with 19 points.

The VHS boys were led by Jaydyn Young, who took 1st place in the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles. Jayon Coleman was 1st in the triple jump and was 3rd in the long jump. Cash Driggers finished 1st in the 1,600m run and was 2nd in the 800m. Jack Godbee was 1st in the pole vault, and AJ Thomas was 1st in the high jump.

Chamlee Evans came in 2nd in the 3,200m run and was 4th in the 1,600m. Tyler McKinney was 2nd in the 200m dash, and Adrian Newkirk finished 2nd in the 400m dash. Kashun Coney came in 3rd in the shot put, he was 3rd in the 400m dash, and was 4th in the high jump.

CJ Monroe took 3rd in the discus. Chandler Stokes was 3rd in the 300m hurdles. Jordan Johnson was 3rd in the 800m run, and Tavarius Franklin was 3rd in the 3,200m run. Dajhari Spkikes came in 4th in the triple jump, DJ Wallace was 4th in the 110m hurdles, and JaMarre Wiggs finished 4th in the 200m dash.

Three of the VHS relay teams took 1st place. The 4x200m team of Jaydyn Young, Tyler McKinney, JaMarre Wiggs, and Adrian Newkirk; the 4x400m team of Adrian Newkirk, Jordan Johnson, Jaydyn Young, and Cash Driggers; and the 4x800m team of Jordon Johnson, Roderick Berry Chamlee Evans, and Cash Driggers all finished in 1st place. The 4x100m team of Tyler McKinney, Chandler Stokes, AJ Mc-Clendon, JaMarre Wiggscame in 3rd place.

Coach Mandy Godbee stated, “I am overwhelmed by the grit and determination these athletes put forth everyday and exceed expectations in their pursuit of excellence to win this Championship. They have shifted their sights to the Sectional Meet that will be hosted on May 2, at Bleckley County High School.”
