John Tyler
o John Tyler’s visage might not have survived on American currency the way images of various figures from America’s early history have, but the tenth president of the United States did manage to remain newsworthy well into the twenty-first century. Tyler, who was born in 1790 and served as President of the United States from 1841 to 1845, was a father of 15. Despite passing away in January 1862, less than a year after the start of the American Civil War, Tyler still had a living grandson at the start of 2025.
Harrison Ruffin Tyler, who passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 96, was the last surviving grandchild of President Tyler. That means the period from President Tyler’s birth in 1790 until the death of his last surviving grandchild spanned nearly a quarter of a millennium.
