It was a great morning for the Kiwanis Vidalia Onion Run on Saturday morning. It was another great turnout for the event with hundreds of runners taking to the street of Vidalia. This year they went back to the 10k and 5k races with the Blue Angels in town to allow people to get finished and get out to the airport for the show. There was one new record set this year in the female 5k race by local runner Virginia Meredith. It was a great morning for running with good temperatures for the runners.

10k

In the 10k men’s race Robert Maughan of South Carolina was in town visiting friends and came in as the race winner with a time of 38:53. Second place went to Jae Chel Lim, who also took second place last year in the half marathon. He is from South Korea and is currently living in Claxton. He ran the race in a time of 40:47. Third place was Dylan Flethcer in 40:59.

For the ladies, Vidalia’s own Macy Todd took the top spot in a time of 51:40. She was followed by Jamie Camacho in a time of 52:21, and Lindsay Crews in a time of 53:34.

5k

In the 5k race for the men John Buxton of Kite came in first place with a time of 18:07. Second place went to Will Morris in 19:32, and third place was Stephen McLeod in 20:03.

For the women, Virginia Meredith had come in first place last year in a time of 20:50, but this year she blew that time away and set a new race record in a time of 18:57. That broke the old record of 19:22 set by Kristen Arendt from Colorado in 2018. Second place went to Kristen Nicolais from Savannah in a time of 20:49, and third place was B. Martin in a time of 23:01.

1-Mile

The winner of the 1-Mile Fun Run was Skyler Coney of Swainsboro.
