The 5th Annual Sweet Onion Showdown – Bulls, Broncs & Barrels wrapped up its three-night run this weekend at the Toombs County Ag Center in Lyons, putting together another successful event to coincide with the Vidalia Onion Festival.

Sanctioned by the Elite Bullriders Association, the rodeo brought a full schedule of bull riding, bronc riding, barrel racing, and freestyle bullfighting to the dirt on Quint Shrine Road. The stands were full with local fans each night, showing that the event continues to be a popular draw for the community.

While official scoring and times from the EBA are still being tallied for the weekend, the performances across all events were highly competitive. Cowboys and cowgirls worked through tough rides and tight turns to put on a good show. The bronc and bull riders faced a challenging set of livestock that resulted in physical, demanding rounds, while the barrel racers pushed the pace to cut down their run times.

The rodeo has established itself as a steady fixture during the festival week. From the time the gates opened at 6 p.m. until the last ride of the night, the event ran efficiently and kept the crowd engaged. With strong attendance and a solid roster of competitors, the Sweet Onion Showdown continues to be a dependable and well-executed tradition for the area.
