The #12 ranked Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team continued their stellar season this past week, showing both dominance and resilience in a pair of nonregion victories over the Jenkins Warriors. The sweep bumps the Vikings’ overall record to an impressive 20-4, sitting nicely alongside their unblemished 10-0 mark in region play.

Game 1

Monday’s matchup in Soperton was all Treutlen, as the Vikings cruised to a 10-0 run-rule victory in five innings. Acie Dickens set the tone early, driving in the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning to put Treutlen on top.

The bats really woke up in the third. After Jack Walker drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, Dickens ripped a two-run double. Gavin Bailey immediately followed with an RBI double of his own to stretch the lead to 5-0.

The Vikings then put the game away with a decisive five-run fifth inning. Michael Boone laced a two-run single, a Viking runner stole home to make it 8-0, and Juddson Wilkes added an RBI double. Dickens capped off his stellar day at the plate with an RBI single to invoke the run rule.

On the mound, the Treutlen pitching staff was completely dialed in. Gavin Wood allowed just one hit over two innings of work, and Caden Parrish slammed the door with three innings of no-hit baseball.

Game 2 Friday’s road trip to Savannah proved to be a much tougher test, but the Vikings showed their grit in a 7-5 comeback win. Jenkins struck first, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning and eventually building a 5-1 lead by the end of the third.

Rather than folding, Treutlen slowly chipped away at the deficit. They pushed across a run in the second, two in the fourth, and another in the fifth to make it a tight 5-4 ballgame.

The decisive blow came in the top of the sixth inning. Boone came through in the clutch with an RBI single to tie things up, and Dickens delivered once again with a two-run double to give Treutlen their first lead of the night at 7-5.

The pitching and defense held firm through the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to secure the hard-fought victory.

The Vikings will look to keep their momentum rolling this week as they take on Wilcox County. Treutlen will host the first game of the series on Tuesday night in Soperton at 5:30 p.m., before hitting the road to play the second game in Rochelle on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
