The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team experienced a mixed bag of results last week, opening with a tough non-region loss before bouncing back to sweep a doubleheader and improve their impressive season record to 12-4 overall and an unblemished 5-0 in Region play. vs. Mary Persons

The week started rough on Monday as the Vikings took on the Mary Persons Bulldogs. The Bulldogs established dominance early, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and tacking on three more in the second to build a quick 5-0 advantage. Treutlen struggled to find their offensive rhythm, pushing across their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Mary Persons responded with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to hand the Vikings a 7-1 defeat.

Treutlen quickly shook off the loss

header, sparking their offense early in Game 1. The Vikings erupted in the top of the second inning to build a 7-0 lead, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Gavin Wood, an RBI single from Brylan Ikner, a two-run triple by Acie Dickens, and an RBI double from Jack Walker.

Jenkins County answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, but Treutlen extended their lead to 8-2 in the fourth. After the teams traded single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, the War Eagles mounted a fierce comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh. Jenkins County pushed four runs across the plate, but the Vikings' defense dug in to secure the stop and a 9-7 victory. vs. Jenkins Co.

Game 2 Game 2 of the doubleheader was all Treutlen, as the Vikings cruised to a dominant 13-0 run-rule victory. Acie Dickens put Treutlen on the board with an RBI single in the second inning before the offense completely broke the game open with a massive 10-run third inning. The explosive frame featured a two-RBI single from DJ Steptoe, a basesloaded three-run triple by Jack Walker, a basesloaded walk drawn by Brylan Ikner, a two-RBI single from Caden Parrish, and another RBI single from Steptoe. The Vikings added their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth to seal the 13-0 shutout.

The Vikings looked to keep their momentum rolling this week as they traveled to Montgomery County on Tuesday for a matchup that concluded after presstime. Treutlen will be back on the diamond Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. road game against Baldwin before returning home to host Montgomery County on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
