Morton, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, delivered a standout performance, winning the high jump with a 2.10-meter mark, earning First Team All-America honors, and securing an individual national title for the Barons.

The victory caps an impressive indoor season for Morton, who consistently performed at a high level in the high jump throughout the year. He qualified for the national meet after placing second at the SSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, positioning himself among the nation’s top competitors heading into the championship event. Morton’s national title marks a significant milestone for the Brewton-Parker track and field program. He becomes the second athlete in program history to win an individual NAIA national championship, joining Brandon Schultz, who claimed national titles in the 60-meter hurdles in 2021 and 2022.

Director of Track and Field Tony Hawkins reflected on Morton’s accomplishment, saying, “We knew he had the ability to compete at a high level. Seeing him become a national champion is truly special. We believe God’s hand has been on this journey, and we are incredibly proud of the work Morton has put in throughout the season.”

Morton reflected on winning by saying, “It’s an incredible feeling to be the national champion in the high jump. All the blood, sweat, tears, and hard practices led to this moment. I’m grateful for my coach, who pushed me every step of the way. This win is just as much his as it is mine. I’m also thankful for my teammates and the support they’ve shown throughout the season. This accomplishment isn’t just mine; it belongs to the entire Barons family. Go Barons!”

Morton’s performance not only highlights his individual success but also represents another milestone for BPCU’s track and field program as it continues to compete at the highest level of NAIA athletics.

Dr. Steve Echols, BPCU President, comments, “Morton’s national championship is an exciting moment for our university. We celebrate his hard work and the leadership of our coaching staff, and we thank the Lord for the opportunity to see our students succeed at the highest level.”

Morton and the Barons now turn their focus to the outdoor track and field season, which begins March 19 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. With momentum from the indoor season, the team will look to continue its success and pursue the program’s first NAIA outdoor national championship.
