RTCA Closes Out Regular Season

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy basketball teams had a busy week on the hardwood, splitting a Tuesday night series with Citizens Christian Academy before the boys traveled to take on First Preparatory Christian Academy on Friday.

Girls vs. CCA

The Lady Crusaders struggled to find their offensive rhythm during Tuesday's matchup against Citizens Christian Academy. CCA’s defense proved difficult to crack, holding RTCA to single digits in multiple quarters. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Lady Crusaders fell to the Lady Patriots by a final score of 47-27.

Boys vs. CCA

On the boys' side, Tuesday night provided a thrilling comeback story. The Crusaders found themselves in an early hole as CCA took a 12-9 lead after the opening frame. The deficit widened significantly in the second period, with Citizens Christian Academy heading into the locker room at halftime holding a comfortable 26-16 advantage.

The second half was a completely different story for RTCA. The Crusaders emerged from the break with renewed energy, mounting a massive offensive surge in the third period. By the start of the fourth, Robert Toombs had flipped the script to lead 41-36. They managed to stave off a late CCA push in the final minutes to secure a gritty 54-50 victory.

Boys vs. FPCA

The boys' momentum hit a roadblock on Friday when they faced off against the Highlanders of First Preparatory Christian Academy. FPCA took control early, leading 14-9 after the first quarter and putting the Crusaders on their heels with a dominant second quarter. RTCA went into halftime trailing 33-17. continued from page

While the Crusaders found more success scoring in the second half, the Highlanders had an answer for every RTCA run. Robert Toombs trailed 52-37 heading into the final period. Although the Crusaders played much more competitively in the closing stages, the early gap was too much to overcome, resulting in a 67-53 loss to FPCA.

The Lady Crusaders finished the regular season with a record of 13-9 and they were 1-3 in the Region. The boys were 15-8 on the year and 4-2 in Region play.

RTCA will play in the Region Tournament at Brewton-Parker Christian University starting on Thursday with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game to follow.
