LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Sirs: I want to start by thanking your publication for the continued coverage on the litter project happening in Vidalia. I also want to point out that the leadership of Mayor Doug Roper and City Manager Josh Beck has been critical to any success this project has had so far. Mostly, I thank the group of 15 or so leading citizens who are trying to do something that is very unique – end litter in Vidalia. Not only has this group met to organize and plan how to de-litter, if you have seen someone walking along the roadway with bags picking up trash, you are probably seeing one if the committee members doing more than just talk.
There is no question there has been progress. My street has less litter since the signs went up. I hope that our business leaders, led by the Chamber and civic organizations, become more active in this campaign. I would wish the same for our churches led by their pastors. In other words, let's make this effort a real community effort.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to express my views. I am very thankful we have a community of leaders who care enough to try to end litter. Gilbert Gonzalez, MD
