Good Week For VHS Basketball


Indians Sweep Tattnall County and Woodville-Tompkins in Perfect Week The Vidalia High School basketball teams enjoyed a flawless week on the court, with both the Indians and Lady Indians securing victories against region opponents Tattnall County and Woodville- Tompkins. The sweep improves the standing of both squads as they continue their march through the regular season schedule.
Girls vs. Tattnall Co.
In a game of two halves, the Lady Indians overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to defeat Tattnall County 49-42. The Lady Warriors controlled the early tempo, jumping out to a 6-0 lead before Vidalia found their footing. First-quarter baskets by Tori Polke and free throws from Mischa Wardlaw kept the Lady Indians close, trailing just 14-12 after one. However, Tattnall County extended their lead in the second quarter, utilizing perimeter shooting to take a 25-15 advantage into the locker room.
The third quarter belonged entirely to Vidalia. The Lady Indians came out of the break on fire, hitting a barrage of three-pointers to erase the deficit completely. By the end of the period, the score was knotted at 33-33. In the fourth, Vidalia’s defense clamped down while the offense surged ahead. Jordyn Goings and Takaiyah Bacon provided crucial baskets, and Ze Rollins added scores to push the lead to 42-33. Despite a late push by Tattnall to cut the gap to five, buckets by Auri Harris and free throws from Goings sealed the 49-42 comeback victory.
Boys vs. Tattnall Co.
The Indians followed the girls' lead with a dominant 7344 performance against the Tattnall County boys. Vidalia set the tone immediately with an explosive display of shooting in the first quarter, draining five consecutive three-pointers to race out to a 17-2 lead. Tattnall County fought back to narrow the gap to 18-14 by the end of the first, but Vidalia’s offense continued to roll. Continued perimeter success pushed the Indians' lead to 3222 at halftime.

Roundtree and Bernard Brewton connected from deep, while Rashad Brown added points from the charity stripe. The Indians outscored the Warriors significantly in the period, taking a commanding 55-37 lead into the final frame. The fourth quarter saw the Indians empty the bench as they cruised to the finish line. Jabari Patterson hit a late three, and Tremendous Troupe added a field goal to cap off the 73-44 rout.
Girls vs. Woodville
Against Woodville-Tompkins, the Lady Indians established control early and never looked back, cruising to a 57-39 win. Vidalia built a comfortable lead in the first half, with contributions from Ze Rollins, Kelcie Howard, and Tori Polke helping them to a 33-17 halftime advantage. The defense was stifling, limiting the Lady Wolverines' opportunities while the offense executed efficiently.
The third quarter saw the Lady Indians extend their dominance. Mischa Wardlaw and Takaiyah Bacon were active on the offensive end, and a late threepointer by Bacon ballooned the lead to 51-25 heading into the fourth. With the game well in hand, Vidalia managed the clock in the final period. Za’miyah Hodges and Henley Zachary added points to the board, and Betsy Seidling hit a late free throw to finalize the score at 57-39.
Boys vs. Woodville
The boys' matchup against Woodville-Tompkins was a tighter contest in the early stages before Vidalia pulled away for a 64-50 victory. The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with Bernard Brewton and Alton Boles scoring in the paint to give Vidalia a slim 15-12 lead. The defensive battle continued into the second quarter, with neither team able to gain significant separation. Boles and Lyric McKennie added baskets to keep the Indians ahead 2622 at the break.
The turning point came in the third quarter. Brycen Burns caught fire, knocking down multiple three-pointers, while Jerry Roundtree added another from beyond the arc. The offensive explosion allowed Vidalia to stretch their lead to 48-34 entering the fourth. In the final period, the Indians maintained their composure. Alton Boles continued his strong night with multiple baskets, and solid freethrow shooting from Roundtree kept the Wolverines at bay, securing the 14-point win.
With the wins the Lady Indians improve their record to 16-6 on the season and they are 10-0 in Region play sitting in the top spot. They boys are also top in the Region with a 19-2 overall record and a 7-1 record in the Region and they are ranked #6 in the state.
This is the final week of the regular season. The Indians hosted rival Toombs County on Tuesday after presstime, and will be back in action on Friday for their final game when they head to Savannah to take on Savannah Country Day at 6:00 p.m.
