Crusaders Sweep Pinewood

Crusaders Sweep Pinewood Crusaders Sweep Pinewood

It was a light week on the schedule for the Robert Toombs Christian Academy basketball teams, with both squads playing just a single contest. However, the Crusaders made the most of the trip, traveling to Bellville on Thursday and securing a sweep against the Pinewood Christian Academy Patriots.

Both the Lady Crusaders and the varsity boys walked away with victories, though they took very different paths to get there.

Girls

The opening matchup of the night proved to be a defensive struggle. Points were at a premium for both sides, but the Lady Crusaders managed to control the tempo and keep the Patriots at bay. RTCA relied on their defense to secure the victory in a low-scoring affair, defeating Pinewoodbyafinal score of 33-21.

Boys

In stark contrast to the girls' game, the boys' matchup was a high-scoring, back-and-forth thriller. The Crusaders and Patriots traded baskets throughout the night in a tight contest that came down to the wire.

Ultimately, RTCA found the offensive firepower needed to pull away, securing a close 76-71 victory. The Crusaders were powered by a trio of doubledigit scorers, led by a big night from Drew Edwards, who poured in 27 points. Alijah Hodges added 14 points, and Boss Franklin chipped in with 13 to help seal the win.

With the sweep in the books, both teams look to carry this momentum into this week's schedule, and it is going to be a busy one. RTCA was at Memorial Day on Tuesday after presstime. Next they will face John Hancock on Thursday at home at 5:00 p.m. They will then play Citizens Christian on the road on Friday at 6:00 p.m., and will wrap up the week at home against Trinity Christian at 4:00 p.m.
