The Vidalia High School basketball teams enjoyed a successful week on the court, with the Lady Indians picking up two victories and the boys adding a dominant win on Saturday.

Girls vs. St. Vincent's

The Lady Indians traveled to Savannah on Tuesday and secured a decisive region victory over St. Vincent’s Academy.

The game began as a defensive battle. Tori Polke opened the scoring for Vidalia, but the game remained tight throughout the first period, with Vidalia holding a narrow 9-8 lead at the buzzer. The second quarter saw the offense begin to spread the ball around, with Haidyn Zachary, Jordyn Goings, and Ze Rollins all finding the basket. A late bucket by Henley Zachary sent the Lady Indians into the locker room with a 21-18 advantage.

Vidalia broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Saints 18-7. Rollins sparked the run with multiple baskets inside, while Polke and Goings added points to build a commanding 39-25 lead heading into the final frame. continued from page

The offensive surge continued in the fourth. Takaiyah Bacon scored early in the period, followed by a three-pointer from Mischa Wardlaw that pushed the lead to 49-30. Auri Harris and Atori Bottoms also got on the board before Wardlaw closed out the game with a series of free throws and layups to seal the 61-35 victory.

Girls vs. Claxton

On Saturday, the Lady Indians hosted the Claxton Tigers and claimed their second win of the week in a game defined by a massive second-quarter run.

The first quarter ended in a rare defensive stalemate with neither team putting points on the board. The Vidalia offense exploded in the second, however, piling up 33 points in eight minutes to take a 33-17 lead at halftime.

Vidalia maintained control throughout the second half. The defense held Claxton in check while the offense extended the lead to 45-33 by the end of the third. The Lady Indians closed the door in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 15-3 down the stretch for the 60-36 final.

Boys vs. Claxton

The Indians capped off the weekend with a blowout victory over the Claxton boys on Saturday, leading wire-to-wire.

Vidalia wasted no time asserting dominance, jumping out to a 24-10 lead in the first quarter. The offense remained consistent in the second, putting up another 16 points to head into the break with a comfortable 40-22 advantage.

The Indians kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 55-33. They cruised through the final frame, adding 16 more points to secure the 71-44 victory.

The Lady Indians are now 8-5 overall, and they are 3-0 in Region play, while the boys are 12-1 on the season and are 1-1 in Region play. This week is a busy week for the Indians. They faced off with Woodville- Tompkins at home on Tuesday night after presstime. They will be back in action at Toombs County on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and then will travel to Dodge County on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
