TCHS Splits 2 Matchups
The Toombs County High School basketball teams experienced mixed results last week in matchups against the Woodville-Tompkins Wolverines and the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets. The Bulldogs had a stellar week, securing 2 victories, while the Lady Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm, dropping both contests.
Girls vs. Woodville
The Lady Bulldogs opened the week strong against the Wolverines, jumping out to a 14-7 lead by the end of the first period. However, Woodville-Tompkins responded aggressively in the second quarter, storming back to tie the game at 29-29 by halftime. The momentum shifted in the third as the Wolverines pulled ahead to lead 37-35. The fourth quarter belonged to Woodville, as they pulled away to hand Toombs a 56-41 loss. Arianna Hill led the Lady Bulldogs' effort with 17 points.
Boys vs. Woodville
In the boys' game, a dominant second half propelled Toombs to a comfortable victory. The Bulldogs held a slim 15-11 advantage after the first quarter and extended that lead to 30-23 by the break. The offense exploded in the third quarter, allowing the Bulldogs to pull away for a commanding 50-28 lead heading into the final frame. Toombs cruised through the fourth to secure a 65-34 win.
Girls vs. Jeff Davis
Offensive struggles plagued the Lady Bulldogs in their second matchup of the week against the Lady Yellow Jackets. Toombs was unable to get anything going on the offensive end of the floor and ultimately fell by a score of 36-14.
Boys vs. Jeff Davis
The boys' game against Jeff Davis proved to be a much tighter contest. After a defensive battle in the first quarter ended with Jeff Davis up 5-4, Toombs found a spark in the second to take a 19-10 halftime lead. The Bulldogs added to their cushion in the third, carrying a 39-27 advantage into the fourth. The Yellow Jackets mounted a furious comeback in the final minutes, but Toombs managed to hold them off to seal a 52-48 victory.
This week the Bulldogs hosted Swainsboro on Tuesday after presstime. The girls will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Savannah to take on the Saints of St. Vincent's at 6:00 p.m.
