RTCA Crusaders Take 3 Games RTCA Crusaders Take 3 Games

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders had a successful weekend on the hardwood, picking up wins on Friday and Saturday. The varsity boys defeated Victory Christian at home on Friday before traveling to Briarwood Academy on Saturday, where both the Crusaders and Lady Crusaders secured victories.

Boys vs. Victory

On Friday night, the Crusaders hosted the Vikings of Victory Christian and controlled the game from the tip. RTCA jumped out to a 19-11 lead in the first period and continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, pulling away to take a commanding 40-16 lead at halftime.

The Crusaders maintained their momentum in the second half, leading 51-27 at the end of the third quarter before cruising to a 68-40 victory.

Girls vs. Briarwood The Lady Crusaders faced a tough road test against the Lady Buccaneers of Briarwood Academy on Saturday. In a tightly contested battle that came down to the wire, RTCA managed to edge out Briarwood for a thrilling 44-43 win.

Boys vs. Briarwood

In the final game of the weekend, the Crusaders boys completed the sweep against Briarwood.

RTCA started fast in the first quarter. After Briarwood opened scoring with a threepointer, Drew Edwards answered with a three of his own to tie the game. Buckets from Edwards and Blake Durden helped the Crusaders build a 15-5 lead by the end of the first. The offense continued to roll in the second quarter with contributions from Edwards, Boss Franklin, Jordan Brown, and Brittan Tabor.

The Crusaders' defense held strong, allowing them to take a 30-15 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Briarwood attempted to chip away at the lead in the third quarter, but RTCA responded with points from Edwards, Durden, and Franklin to maintain a 42-28 lead heading into the final period.

The Crusaders put the game out of reach early in the fourth quarter. Alijah Hodges, Tabor, and Edwards all scored to extend the lead to 53-30. Late baskets from Durden, a three-pointer from Franklin, and a score by Brody Randal sealed the 60-41 victory.

It is a busy week for RTCA this week as they have 4 opponents. On Monday of this week they were at Thomas Jefferson after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday when they host Bulloch Academy at 6:00 p.m., On Friday RTCA will host David Emanuel Academy at 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday they will travel to Frederica Academy at 3:30 p.m.
