The J.R. Trippe Chiefs Wrestling Team captured the Region Championship in a dual-style tournament held at Metter Middle School last Wednesday night. The Chiefs delivered 2 commanding victories, defeating both Toombs County Middle School and host Metter Middle School in head-to-head matchups to secure the title.

A number of Chiefs wrestlers achieved an impressive undefeated record for the night, including Peyton Coursey, Jax Roberts, Ethan Holmes, Psylis Marin, Brinson Martin, Kamden Bacon, and Greg Jones.

Contributing significantly to the team's success with individual wins were Jase Foster, Abram Holmes, Landon Harvill, Josh Wiese, and Kenny Robinson.

Head Coach Gray Meredith praised the team's progress: “We have a young group of scrappy wrestlers continued from page

who are getting better with every match. Their fitness and technique have continued to improve through the season, and we are looking forward to seeing this group mature over the next few years.”

Coach Bryant Blount highlighted the growth of the sport in the community: “ Wrestling coaches at Vidalia and surrounding schools have worked hard over the past few years to grow the sport of wrestling in our area starting with youth programs. We are beginning to see the results of that work, and we hope parents and student- athletes are seeing the real benefits of wrestling. It is a sport that helps all other sports by improving strength, fitness, agility, and power. We encourage all of our students to try it out.”

The Chiefs still have approximately 2 weeks remaining in the season, facing tough competition ahead. Fans are encouraged to come out and support Chiefs wrestling as they finish their outstanding year.
