Lady Crusaders Close Out Regular Season

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders softball team wrapped up the regular season last week. They fell to David Emanuel Academy on Monday, lost to Charlton County on Wednesday, and then bounced back with a win over Windsor Academy on Thursday. They closed out the regular season with an overall record of 15-10 and they were 8-4 in Region action.

RTCA put 4 runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning to jump into the lead, with Amelia Mercer driving in the first run of the inning. But DEA plated 3 runs in the top of the next inning to close the lead to 4-3, and then they took the lead in the fifth with 2 more runs, leading 5-4.

DEA scored 2 more in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-4 lead. RTCA did score a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it was not enough as they lost 7-5 to DEA. vs. Charlton Co.

Charlton got on the board with a run in he bottom of the first inning, and added even more in the second inning with 4 more runs. Charlton plated 1 more in the fourth to push the lead to 6-0.

RTCA finally got on the board in the top of the fifth ininng, but one more from Charlton gave them the lead and the win, 7-1. vs. Windsor

The Lady Crusaders had to battle, but they did what they needed as they pulled out a 9-8 win over Windsor Lady Knights.

The Windsor Academy Lady Knights were the first to put runs on the board, scoring 3 runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a trio of singles. RTCA answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the frame to close the lead to 3-2 The Lady Crusaders fought back and reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third inning. The rally began when Amelia Mercer grounded out, which was followed by an Annabelle Coe single, a Chesney Burch single, and an Anna Kate Joyner single, with each player scoring one run to give Robert Toombs the advantage, 6-3.

center field for Windsor Academy in the top of the fifth scored 2 runs, making the score 6-5. RTCA came through with 2 more in the bottom half to extend their lead to 8-5.

The Lady Knights then added 2 runs in the sixth inning, and tied the game at 8-8 in the top of the seventh on a single down the right field line.

But RTCA came through with a Chesney Burch walk off triple in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 9-8 win.

This week is the State Playoffs for RTCA. The top 8 teams will travel to Columbus for the double elimination tournament beginning on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the South Commons Softball Complex. RTCA will face off with Thomas Jefferson Academy in the first round of the tournament on Field 6.

The Championship Game will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. if RTCA makes it to it.
