Wheeler Bulldogs Dominate Bobcats
The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs football team delivered a solid performance on their home turf last Friday night, routing the Dooly County Bobcats with a commanding 37-9 lead by halftime. Under fair weather conditions and on a dry field, the Bulldogs thrilled hundreds of fans with an offensive explosion and a stout defensive effort that left the Bobcats reeling.
The Bulldogs wasted no time asserting their dominance. By the second quarter, they had already built a significant 24-9 lead, showcasing a balanced attack that kept Dooly County on their heels. The Wheeler County offense continued to roll, entering the red zone with approximately five minutes left in the half.
Running back Alvin Ricks punched in a 5-yard rushing touchdown, extending the Bulldogs' lead to 30-9. Kicker Adam Garcia followed up with a successful point after attempt, bringing the score to 31-9.
The Bulldogs' defense also made its presence felt. With just two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Laith Davis recovered a Dooly County fumble, giving Wheeler County excellent field position at the Bobcats' 25-yard line.
Capitalizing on the turnover, quarterback Reco Wooten connected with Jaden Bridges on a 6-yard passing touchdown in the final minute of the half, pushing the score to 37-9. Though the subsequent point after attempt was missed, the Bulldogs headed into halftime with the big lead The second half continued in a similar fashion, as the Bulldogs continued to pull away, taking the win, 50- 9.
The Bulldogs are out to a 5-0 start on the season, and they are now 1-0 in Region play. This week they will host the Red Devils of Hawkinsville with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
