The Vidalia High School Indians softball team hosted Wheeler County last Tuesday to kick off their season, and then traveled to Harlem on Saturday to take part in the Harlem Fall Classic. In Harlem they took on Greenbriar and Loganville Christian. VHS got the win over Wheeler, but fell in two close games in Harlem. vs. Wheeler Co.

The Lady Indians started their season on a high note, earning a 2-1 victory against Wheeler County on Tuesday. The game was a classic pitcher's duel, with both teams struggling to generate offense.

The Lady Indians' Tori Polke was the star of the show, dominating on the mound with a phenomenal performance. She pitched seven and twothirds innings, racking up an impressive 10 strikeouts and allowing only one earned run on just three hits.

Wheeler County managed to get on the scoreboard first in the third inning, capitalizing on a Vidalia error. The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when the Lady Indians finally broke through. Paisley Ledford delivered a clutch single to center field, tying the game at 1-1.

Neither team scored in the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings. VHS held in the top of the eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, the Indians came through with a run to take the win over Wheeler, 2- 1.

Harlem Fall Classic Saturday proved to be a challenging day for the Lady Indians as they competed in the Harlem Fall Classic, suffering two back-to-back losses that highlighted both their strengths and areas for improvement. vs. Greenbriar

Vidalia fell to Greenbriar with a final score of 6-4 in a game that saw the lead change hands multiple times. Greenbriar scored first in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Indians quickly responded in the bottom half. Deidra Boston hit a big two-run homer, giving Vidalia a 2-1 lead.

Greenbriar pulled ahead again with two runs in the second, but a timely single by Anastyn Blewett in the third put Vidalia back on top, 4-3. However, Greenbriar took the lead for good in the fourth inning after a double and a Vidalia error each scored a run.

The final nail in the coffin came in the fifth when a player hit a solo home run to seal the deal for Greenbriar. vs. Loganville Christian The second game of the day was a heartbreaker for Vidalia, ending in a continued from page

narrow 4-3 loss to Loganville Christian Academy.

The Lady Indians started strong in the bottom of the first, with Deidra Boston tripling down the right field line and Sadie Berry singling to the left, each scoring a run to give Vidalia a 2-0 lead. Loganville Christian fought back, taking a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning.

Vidalia managed to tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth after an error by Loganville. Unfortunately, Loganville scored the winning run in the top of the fifth, securing the victory.

This week the Indians hosted East Laurens on Monday and Greenbriar for a rematch on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action when they host the Highway 280 Invitational on Friday and Saturday. On Friday VHS will play West Laurens at 5:00 p.m., and then on Saturday VHS will play Harlem at 12:00 p.m. and Charlton County at 2:00 p.m. There will be other games at VHS on Saturday as well as games held at Toombs County High School as part of the tournament.
