Lady Bulldogs Roll Over MCHS; Fall To ECI

The Toombs County High School softball team played two games last week to kick off their 2025 season. They faced off with Montgomery County High School on Wednesday and then took on Emanuel County Institute on Friday. Both games were played in Lyons. vs. MCHS

The Toombs County Lady Dawgs delivered an impressive 15-0 win over the Montgomery County Lady Eagles on Wednesday.

Toombs County jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Cyleigh Ennis was hit by a pitch, Natalie Quintero drew a walk, Montgomery County committed an error, and Mishi Smith walked—all contributing to four early runs.

The Bulldogs exploded for six more runs in the second inning. A Montgomery County error scored the first run, followed by Leighton Williams’ RBI single. Kylah Gay then doubled, driving in two more, and Smith capped off the inning with a two-RBI single.

Toombs County continued to pour it on in the third. Ennis and Quintero each singled, Madalyn Poole doubled to center, Kylie Carroll was hit by a pitch, and Londyn Johnson walked—each player adding to the scoreboard with one run apiece.

Taylor Bland earned the win for Toombs County, pitching a flawless three-inning shutout. The righthander allowed no hits or walks while striking out five. Trinity Wideman took the loss for Montgomery County, allowing four runs (three earned) in just twothirds of an inning.

Offensively, Bland, Ennis, Quintero, Emerson Powell, Gay, Smith, Poole, and Williams each recorded a hit. Quintero, Gay, and Smith led the team with two RBIs apiece. The Bulldogs showed great discipline at the plate, drawing 11 walks—led by Bland and Elly Haygood with two each. Toombs County was aggressive on the base paths, racking up seven stolen bases, including four from Bland. Defensively, the Bulldogs were flawless, committing no errors. Toombs County Varsity Softball came up short on Friday, falling 6–3 to Emanuel County Institute (ECI).

In the third inning, ECI extended their advantage when Henry grounded out to drive in a run, making it 4–1.

Mitchell earned the win in the circle for ECI, allowing five hits and three runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one. For Toombs County, starter Taylor Bland pitched a complete game, giving up 11 hits and six runs across seven innings while striking out six without issuing a walk.

At the plate, Natalie Quintero powered the Bulldogs’ offense, driving in two runs and going 1-for-3. Cyleigh Ennis, Emerson Powell, Kylah Gay, Sage White, and Leighton Williams each added a hit for Toombs County.

ECI’s bats stayed hot throughout the game, collecting 11 hits. Hillran led the way with a 2-for-4 day and two RBIs, while Russel, Durden, Walden, and Mitchell also tallied two hits apiece.

Despite the loss, Bulldogs Head Coach Hayne Brant praised his team’s effort, “I’m proud of the way our girls competed,” Brant said. “They battled all the way through and never quit. We’re continuing to grow as a team, and I know we’ll be ready for the next one.”

The Bulldogs will look to bounce back on Thursday when they take on Calvary Day at home at 5:30 p.m. They will then take part in the Highway 280 Invitational that will be played at both TCHS and at Vidalia High School. Toombs will host West Laurens at 10:00 a.m. and then Wheeler County at 2:00 p.m.
