Soap Box Racers In Akron

Local soap box racers from the Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby were in Akron, OH, last week to compete in the International Soap Box Derby World Championships at Derby Downs. While the local racers didn’t earn any World Championships this year, there was one local racer who did come away with a fifth place and a couple of others that made it out of the first round.
Local Masters
Charles Conner took fifth place in the Local Masters race. In the first round, he took his race by just .021 seconds. In the next round, he had a great run, but fell by just .008 seconds to the eventual race runner-up from Virginia.
That sent Conner into the consolation round where he had another solid trip down the hill. He was just short by .012 seconds to a racer from Pennsylvania, and with that came away with fifth place overall in the race.
Rally Masters
In the Rally Masters, there were two local racers that competed, Alyssa Head and Noah Gordy. Head got through the first round as she defeated her opponent by .01 seconds. Gordy fell in the first round by just .022 seconds.
Head moved on to the second round, but she dropped her next race by just .03 seconds to a racer from Clinton, OH.
Local Stock
In the Local Stock race, Janna Hutcheson got through the first round after she took the win in her heat by .089 seconds over a racer from New York and one from Japan. In the next round, she was not able to overcome her opponent from Columbus, OH, and lost by .062 seconds.
It was another good year for the Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby, and they will be heading back down the local hill at Partin Park before long. There are several Rally Races coming up over the next year, along with the Local Soap Box Derby next year.
