Former Vidalia High School graduate, Tyrone Jones, held his 5th Annual Basketball Camp last week at JR Trippe Middle School. The camp was a big success with over 120 kids in attendance from ages 5-11 in the morning sessions, and 12-17 in the afternoon.

Jones said, “It has been a great week. The kids are just great, and behave well and have done a great job listening to what we are teaching. This is all about them, the kids. My whole family is a part of this, teaching and mentoring them, and the community has done a great job pitching in as well. We have lots of volunteers that have come out to help give these kids a good camp.

“We also feed the kids lunch every day. And we have to give a big thanks to the Boys' and Girls' Club of Vidalia for helping us out with that. We have not lacked for anything here at this camp thanks to this great community that has given to these kids.”

As a bonus for the kids in attendance, Jamail Jones, Tyrone's son, was also there to help teach the kids. He is a professional basketball player overseas, and was a big part of the camp this year, especially with the older kids.

Tyrone and his wife Venda are looking forward to next year's camp already.
