VRD Takes 12U District Title

VRD Takes 12U District Title

The 12U Boys District 1 Baseball Tournament was held in Vidalia last week with the home team taking the title. Lyons also played in the tournament and finished in third place.

VRD vs. Effingham Co.

In the first round, Vidalia faced off with Effingham County, and this game was practically over after the first inning. Effingham did pick up a run in the top of the first inning, but in the bottom half of the frame VRD got the bats going as they put 12 runs on the board. Vidalia loaded the bases a couple of times in the inning, and kept coming up with solid singles as they built up the big, 12-1, lead.

In the top of the third, Effingham plated three more runs, and they added another in the fourth, but VRD was still out in front, 12-5.

Vidalia added one more run in the fifth inning on the way to a 13-5 win.

LRD vs. Thomson-McDuffie

Lyons played their first round game against Thomson-McDuffie and rolled to an easy win. Lyons loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. They added five more runs in the third inning off two RBI doubles and continued from page

three RBI singles. That pushed the score to 9-0 Thomson picked up their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Lyons added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the win by the run rule, 13-1.

VRD vs LRD

That set up Vidalia and Lyons in a rivalry game in the second round of the tournament. This game was all Vidalia, though, as they pulled away in the second inning.

Neither team scored in the first, but in the bottom of the second inning,Vidalia went on a run. A couple of runs scored on errors by Lyons, and Vidalia also had two RBI doubles in the inning as they took a 6-0 lead over their rival.

Vidalia added to their lead in the third inning on a three-run home run to push the lead to 9-0. Then Vidalia added a three-run home run in the fourth inning to push the lead to 12-0 and take the win by the run rule.

LRD vs. Rincon

Lyons fell to the losers' bracket after the loss to Vidalia, and their first game there was against Rincon. Lyons had to battle, but they did just that to keep their tournament alive.

Lyons scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning with an RBI single, but Rincon plated three runs in the bottom of the inning to jump into the lead, 3-1.

Lyons added a run in the top of the fifth inning, but Rincon answered with a run in the bottom half to make the score 4-2. But Lyons was not done as they came through with three RBI singles in the top of the sixth inning to jump ahead, 6-4. Lyons then held in the bottom of the frame to take the win by that score.

LRD vs. Effingham Co.

Lyons did all of their work in this game in the bottom of the first inning. Three big RBI doubles, along with several other hits gave Lyons an 8-0 lead in the first inning of the game.

Neither team was able to score a run over the next four innings as Lyons took the win, 8-0. That win moved Lyons into the semifinals of the losers' bracket.

VRD vs. Emanuel Co.

In the semifinals of the winners' bracket, the boys from Vidalia took on Emanuel County, and it was Vidalia's closest game of the tournament, but they still won by four runs. In the top of the first inning, Emanuel jumped ahead with four runs on a grand slam, but in the bottom half, Vidalia came back with three runs to close the lead to 4-3. Vidalia then tied the game at 4-4 in the third inning.

Vidalia took the lead in the fourth inning with five more runs, including a grand slam, to take a 9-4 lead. Emanuel did add a run in the top of the fifth inning, but that was all they could get as VRD took the victory, 9-5.

LRD vs. Emanuel Co.

In the semifinals of the losers' bracket, Lyons met their match in Emanuel County. Lyons couldn't get much going at the plate as they lost the game to end their tournament run.

Emanuel jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and they added three more in the second to take an 8-0 lead.

Emanuel held onto that lead through the next three innings to win the game by that score, 8-0.

VRD vs. Emanuel Co.

Championship After the win over Lyons, Emanuel had their rematch with Vidalia, but it did not go well for them as VRD run ruled them to claim the Championship.

Emanuel scored their only run of the game in the top of the first inning to take the early lead, but in the bottom of the inning, Vidalia got to work as they put seven runs on the board. Vidalia added five more runs in the second inning, including a three-run home run.

VRD closed out the game in the third with four more runs to win the game and the title by the run rule, 16-1.

Vidalia will now move on to the GRPA State Tournament, which will be held next week in Bulloch County. Vidalia will play their first game against Peach County on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
