VRD 14U Boys Win District


The Vidalia Recreation Department's 14U Boys are District 1 Champions. Last week they traveled to Effingham County to play in the District Tournament and got the win to earn their spot in the State Tournament. vs. Emanuel Co.
Vidalia took on Emanuel County in their first game of the tournament, and took a close, one-run, win.
Emanuel jumped out with three runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. But Vidalai picked up two runs in the bottom of the first and then tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning when a run scored on a ball hit by Austin Quintero.
Emanuel took the lead back in the top of the fourth inning with two more runs to go ahead, 5-3. Vidalia plated a run in the bottom of the fourth, and in the sixth VRD tied the game at 5-5 on a sacrifice bunt by Hudson Deloach.
Emanuel took the lead back again in the top of the seventh inning with one run, but the boys from Vidalia rallied in the bottom of the final inning to get the win. VRD tied the game on a sacrifice fly at 6-6, and then came through with the game winning hit as they beat Emanuel County, 7-6. vs. Effingham Co.
In this game, it was Vidalia that took the early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning. Cole Scott had a 2-RBI double and Cayden McDonald added an RBI single as Vidalia took a 3-0 lead.
Effingham plated a run in the bottom of the first inning, but another run from VRD in the top of the third pushed the lead to 4-1.
Vidalia added another run in the top of the fourth inning, but two from Effingham in the bottom of the frame closed the lead to 5-3. However, VRD scored a run in the

sixth and another in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead.
Effingham picked up one more run in the bottom of that final inning, but VRD took the win, 7-4. vs. Emanuel Co. Championship That put Vidalia into the Championship Game against Emanuel County. This was another one-run battle, this time going to extra innings.
Emanuel again took the early lead on Vidalia with three runs in the top of the first inning. They added another in the third to push that lead to 4-0. But Vidalia plated three runs in the bottom of the third to close the lead to 4-3, and then in the fourth Deloach drove in two runs as Vidalia took a 5-4 lead.
In the top of the sixth inning, Emanuel took the lead back with two more runs to make it 6-5. In the bottom of the sixth inning, VRD loaded the bases, and a walk to Gavin Reynolds brought in the tying run, 6-6. Vidalia wasn't able to get anything else out of that, though. Neither team scored in the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings tied at 6-6. In the top of the eighth, Vidalia held, and in the bottom of the inning McDonald came through with a game-winning single as VRD came out on top, 7-6, to take the District Championship.
Vidalia will be back in Effingham County for the State Tournament next week. They will play their first game on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. against the winner of the Effingham County vs. Wayne County game.
