The LRD 10U Boys team won the 62 Annual Lyons Youth Tournament.

The 62nd Annual Lyons Youth Tournament took place at Partin Park over the past week with several local teams winning Championships. In the 10U Boys Division it came down to Lyons and Vidalia in the finals, with Lyons coming out on top. This division kicked off their tournament on Saturday May 31, and finished up on Tuesday, June 3.

LRD vs. Reidsville

In the first round of the tournament, Lyons played the first game against Reidsville. Lyons took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning after a 2-RBI triple and an RBI single to take a 3-0 lead.

LRD put the game away in the second inning as they plated seven more runs as they pushed their lead to 10- 0.

Lyons held in the third and fourth innings to take the win by the run rule.

LRD vs. Glennville Lyons then took on Glennville in the second round, and they ran away with this game as well. Lyons jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, and then blew the game open in the second inning.

The Lyons boys came through with a bunch of hits in the second inning, including five doubles as they put 14 runs on the board. That pushed their lead to 19-0.

Lyons had a total of 14 hits in the game, but Glennville also committed seven errors. Lyons won the game 19-0 in three innings.

VRD vs. Evans Co.

The first game of the tournament for Vidalia was against Evans County. Vidalia easily took the win over Evans. Vidalia took the win, 9- 0.

LRD vs. Candler Co.

Lyons again picked up a win in this game. They

scored three runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI single and a couple of Candler errors. Lyons added three more runs in the third inning on a pair of RBI hits to take a 6-0 lead.

Candler picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Lyons answered with two more runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 8-1. Lyons scored three more in the top of the sixth on the way to an 11-1 win.

That win moved Lyons into the semifinals of the winners' bracket against rival Vidalia. VRD vs. Emanuel Co.

Vidalia had to battle in this game, but they came out on top over Emanuel County. Vidalia pulled away to take a 6-3 win over Emanuel to advance to the semifinals of the winners' bracket against their Rival Lyons.

LRD vs. VRD

On Monday of last week the two local rivals met up in the semifinals of the winners' bracket. Lyons took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

Both teams were kept off the board over the next two innings, but in the top of the fourth inning LRD pulled away as they plated six more runs to take an 8-0 lead over Vidalia. Lyons added another run in the top of the fifth inning, with Vidalia scoring their only run of the game in the bottom half of the frame.

Lyons took the win over VRD, 9-1. Lyons had 15 hits in the game. VRD had 10 hits, but just couldn't get the big ones when they needed them. VRD vs. Emanuel Co.

That loss dropped Vidalia into the losers' bracket, where they had to face Emanuel County for a shot at a rematch with Lyons in the Championship.

Vidalia took the lead in the top of the first inning with one run, and then added two more runs on an RBI double in the third inning to push their lead to 3-0. VRD added one more run in the top of the fifth inning as they went ahead, 4-0.

Emanuel did score a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but VRD took the win, 4-1 to move into the Championship against Lyons.

LRD vs. VRD Championship This was a much closer game between the rival with the title on the line. It took an extra inning to decide the winner, with Lyons coming from behind to take the title in the bottom of the seventh.

Lyons picked up two runs on an RBI double and an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead.

Vidalia came back with a run in the top of the second inning to close the lead to 2-1, and then tied the game in the top of the fourth inning at 2-2. The game remained tied through the sixth inning, sending it to extra innings.

In the top of the seventh inning, Vidalia came through as a run scored on a ground out to go up, 3-2, over Lyons.

But in the bottom of the inning, Lyons picked up an RBI double down the left-field line, and then an error brought in the winning run for Lyons, as they defeated Vidalia, 4-3, to take the Championship. Lyons and Vidalia both moved on to play in the District Tournament held in Bulloch County. The tournament finished up on Tuesday of this week after presstime.


The Vidalia 10U Boys team took 2nd Place in the 62nd Annual Lyons Youth Tournament.
