How It Happened

Patrick Jones started the dual off hot in the 125-lb bout by pushing the Barons forward with a 6-0 advantage, after pinning Martrez Huff in 6:04 minutes. Unfortunately, the hot start was quickly cooled by the Lions as Brewton-Parker fell to a 19-point deficit by dropping the next five matches.

Keyshaun Taylor fell in an 8-0 major decision to Eli Holton at 133. In the 141-weight class, Conner Wright was dropped in a 24-7 tech fall to Christian Gordon to put the Lions up 9-6.

At 149, Owens took a 3:43 fall to David Lundquist and was followed by Gavin Daniels falling in 1:56 to Gage Shetley in the 157-pound division to give the Lions a 15-point lead. At 165, Sean Houston dropped a 17-5 major decision to Christian Trimble to give EU a 20-6 edge.

Justin Grant attempted to change the momentum for the Barons by breaking the five-match losing streak. Grant produced a 3-2 decision over Conner Smith at the 174-pound weight class to cut the deficit to 25-9. The momentum shift wouldn’t stick as Charlie Henkel was dropped in a 7-2 decision in the 184-pound division.

Thomas Crawford took the mat next for BPC at 197. Crawford fell to Micha Clemson in 4:24, giving the Lions a 34-9 lead going into the last match of the night. At 285, Saul took down Tony Olea in an 11-2 major decision, to produce a final score of 34-13 in favor of the Lions.
