City of Lyons Launches TextMyGov

mrandolphadvance@gmail.com

The City of Lyons is enabling citizens to receive updates about their town through a text messaging service, as the municipality launches the TextMyGov notification service. TextMyGov is a oneway communication service that allows citizens to receive instant messages regarding up-to-date local information. The City plans to use this service to share information with the public about road closures, school alerts, weather warnings, and city/community events. Lyons Mayor Willis D. NeSmith commented on this new development. “I am excited to be able to use this technology in our city,” he remarked. “Communicating with our residents and businesses is so important.” Prior to the implementation of this system in Lyons, the city of Vidalia recently launched the same system, which was highly effective in communication with the community, especially during the Vidalia Onion Festival.

To opt into these informative messages about Lyons, people should text the word “LYONS” to 91896. The messaging service will reply, requesting that you reply “YES” to confirm your request to join the forum. Once replying this confirmation, users will receive notifications through text messages about the area. Standard messaging and data rates apply. For more information, visit the City of Lyons website.
