Lady Eagles Keep Rolling

The Montgomery County High School Eagles basketball teams faced off with Dublin and Jenkins County last week. The Lady Eagles won both of their games while the boys split their contests.

Girls vs. Dublin

It was a close game throughout with the Lady Eagles pulling out the win. Dublin took the early lead and were on top 10-6 at the end of the first period. MCHS came back in the second but were still down 16-14 going to halftime.

In the third quarter the Eagles took the lead over the Lady Irish. MCHS led the game 27-26 heading to the fourth. In that fourth quarter MCHS did just enough to hold off Dublin as they got the win, 36-35.

MCHS was led by Makyla Bell with 13 points and Marley Bell with 11.

Boys vs. Dublin

The Eagles kept the game close early, but the Irish pulled away and took the win. Dublin was on top 15-12 at the end of the first period, but in the second they outscored the Eagles 18-8 to hold a 33-20 lead at halftime.

In the third the Irish kept up the pressure as they extended their lead to 54-31. Dublin took the win over MCHS 67-36.

game early. In the first they led the game 9-3 and by halftime were on top 20-11.

In the third a threepointer by Makyla Bell and a basket in the paint by Tabatha Bailey gave MCHS a 25-14 lead with 6:05 left in the third. A three by Jabrayla Coglin put MCHS up 32-19 with just over three minutes left in the third. At the end of the third the score was 37-22 with MCHS well out in front.

In the fourth quarter Marley Bell hit two shots for a 45-29 lead as the Eagles were in control of this game late. The Eagles took the win 45-33.

MCHS was led by Marley Bell with 18 points and Makyla bell scored 14 in the win.

Boys vs. Jenkins

Jenkins ran out to a big lead on the Eagles. Jenkins was on top 10-0 before the Eagles finally got a basket by Demorrius Brooker with 3:05 left in the first quarter. At the end of the first the score was 16-4 with Jenkins out in front.

In the second the Eagles kept pace with Jenkins and had closed it to 29-22 with a three from Quantez Lewis.

In the third it was 3730 after a three by Lewis and a fast-break basket by Samari Madison. The Eagles went on a run and by the fourth quarter the lead for Jenkins was down to just one at 48-47. MCHS took the lead on a steal by Madison and basket by Brooker. The Eagles held onto the lead and won the game 63-58. The Lady Eagles are now 14-2 on the year and are 8-1 in Region play, while the boys are 4-10 on the year and 3-7 in the Region. This week the Lady Eagles will be at Treutlen on Thursday at 5:00 p.m., MCHS will host Dooly County on Friday at 6:00 p.m., and then will host Treutlen County on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
