VHS Track At State Meet
The Vidlaia High School track & field teams competed at the GHSA State Championships recently as they made the journey up I – 75 to Powder Springs and McEachern High School. The Indian teams, who were well represented on both the girls and boys side, were able to post some impressive personal records (13) with the girls finishing 6th and the boys 8th.
Vidalia Track Coach Mandy Godbee said that despite some “bumps in the road” both teams ended on a positive note, “The boys and girls developed far more than anticipated, and ended the season with 13 Personal best performances at the State Meet. There were a few bumps we hit throughout the meet, but they fought through it and almost every traveling athlete made the podium. I'm proud of them and their successful season!”
Three Indians posted runner – up finishes over the weekend, including Kyleigh Johnson (100 High Hurdles), Myesha Hall (Triple Jump), and Michael Madison (200m dash). And Godbee said the three have been a stable force all year long, “I am especially excited for Kyleigh, Myesha, and Michael, who all had runner up finishes over the weekend. These three have been our leaders throughout the season and contributed immensely over the weekend.”
The Vidalia teams, who both won Region Titles this year, look to be strong again in 2022 as the girls return 7 and the boys 8 members of the team who qualified for the State Meet.
VHS Girls
Myesha Hall earned 4 medals; triple jump – 2nd, long jump – 6th, 4x100m – 7th (PR), 4x400m – 5th (PR). Kyleigh Johnson earned 4 medals; 100m hurdles – 2nd (PR in prelims), 300m hurdles – 4th (PR in Prelims), 4x100m – 7th (PR), 4x400m – 5th (PR). Sarah Owen broke 3 school records and earned 4 medals; 1,600m – 5:28 – 7th place, 3,200m 12:04 – 6th place, 800m 2:24 – 6th place, 4x400m 5th (PR). Jasmine Smith; Discus – 6th, Shot Put – 8th.
Ladies 4x100m – (PR), Samara Troupe, Kyleigh Johnson, Moriah Wardlaw, and Myesha Hall. Ladies 4x400m – (PR), Moriah Wardlaw, Kaitlyn Allen, Sarah Owen, and Myesha Hall.
VHS Boys
Michael Madison wins 3 medals, 200m – 2nd (PR in Prelims), 100m – 4th (PR in Prelims), 4x100m – 5th. Kaylan Johnson, Long Jump – 8th, Triple Jump – 8th. Matt Hill, Long Jump – 5th (PR). Brandon Beasley, Long Jump – 8th, (Johnson and Besley tied for 8th) 4x100m – 5th (PR), Michael Madison, Sinclair Williams, Jordan Powell, and Tyran Jacobs.
