Lady Bulldogs With 2 Wins

The Toombs County High School Bulldog softball team was at the Tattnall County Tournament last week to kick off their season. They took on Glynn Academy and Metter and came away with wins in both games.

TCHS vs. Glynn

Krista Cantwell was in the circle for the Bulldogs in their first game of the tournament and had a solid game with seven strikeouts.

Toombs jumped out to a big lead in the first inning of the game with six runs. They added to that in the second inning with two more to take an 8-0 lead. Three more runs in the fourth inning put the Bulldogs on top 11-0.

Glynn finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with one run, but it was not enough as Toombs took the win by the run rule, 11- 1.

Rilyn Fitzgerald and Cantwell led the way with two hits each, while K.K. Mobley had three RBIs.

TCHS vs. Metter

It was a much closer game against the Tigers of Metter in Toombs' second game of the tournament. Toombs put a run on the board in the top of the first inning, but Metter answered in the bottom half to tie the game at 1-1. In the top of the third inning Toombs appeared to blow the game open as they plated seven runs to jump ahead to an 8-1 lead. But in the bottom of the frame Metter came storming back with five of their own to close the gap to 8-6.

The Bulldogs picked up one more in the fifth and another in the top of the sixth as they pulled out to a 10-6 lead. Metter tried to get a rally going in the bottom of the sixth, but got just one run as Toombs took the win, 10-7.

Kassidy Brantley led TCHS with two hits, with Cantwell and Arli Gooden splitting time in the circle.

This week Toombs is at Dublin on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. and at Appling County on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
