Fall 2022 Toombs County Scrap Tire Amnesty Week September 26 – September 30, 2022 The Scrap Tire Amnesty Week is to prevent illegal dumping of scrap tires on residential and commercial properties, city right-of-ways and county right-of-ways. The Scrap Tire Amnesty Week for Toombs County will take place beginning Monday, September 26, 2022 to Friday, September 30, 2022 at 4:00 PM. This event allows citizens within Tombs County and its municipalities to bring scrap tires to the Toombs County Landfill located at 3595 GA HWY 15, Vidalia, GA (South of Toombs County Public Works and North of Georgia Forestry) for no charge, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Monday – Friday. This event ends at 4:00 PM on September 30, 2022. On October 1, 2022 the normal tire disposal fees for tires will resume. These scrap tires can only be passenger cars and trucks, non-commercial semitractor trailer, or non-commercial front and rear farm tractor scrap tires. No heavy equipment tires, especially skidder tires; can be accepted. No scrap tires accepted from retail tire dealers, or commercial scrap tire generators (Farmers, Loggers, Owner-Operator Semi- Drivers, etc.). The specifications for this event will be strictly enforced by Toombs County and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. There will be no exceptions to the date, times or tire type. Funding for the program comes from an application by the Toombs County Board of Commissioners to the state Solid Waste Trust Fund, which was established in 1990 as part of the Georgia Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Act. In 1992, an amendment to the Act established a primary source of funding for the SWTF in the form of a $1.00 fee on every new tire sold in the state. Each year, fees collected the previous year MAY be appropriated by the General Assembly to EPD. The Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources is a state agency charged with protecting Georgia’s air, land, and water resources through the authority of the state and federal environmental statutes. For more information please contact the Toombs County Landfill at 912-537-9966 or Toombs County Board of Commissioners at 912-526-3311.
